The Product Hero's Journey

Sandrine Olivencia and Andrew Davis at the Lean Summit 2024 in Carlsbad, California.

The hero's journey, a concept popularized by Joseph Campbell in his book "The Hero with a Thousand Faces," outlines a common narrative archetype involving a hero who goes on an adventure, faces and overcomes trials, and returns home transformed. This structure has been widely influential, finding its application beyond storytelling and into various fields, including product development. When applied to product development, the hero's journey offers a rich framework for understanding the lifecycle of a product from conception to maturity, paralleling the transformative adventure of a hero.

The Product Hero's Journey is an adaptation of the hero's journey to the context of product development. It has been carefully designed by Taktique's co-founder Sandrine Olivencia and AutoRABIT's CPO Andrew Davis to help founder and product managers to express the vision of their product, and to align their team around a common goal. They presented this tool at the Lean Summit 2024 in Carlsbad, California.
